Conceptual Garden Planning
The design process is a collaborative experience. It includes a thorough analysis of your site and an interview process designed to help uncover your needs, wants, and dreams for your garden space.
We start by developing a conceptual garden plan that focuses on the shape & flow of your garden, which is greatly influenced by how you envision using your outdoor spaces and how involved you want to be with your garden in terms of maintenance & upkeep. Special emphasis is placed on creating strong connections between your indoor and outdoor spaces.
The concept plan if drawn at scale and typically shows the location of all major site elements such as patios, walkways & paths, decking, fencing, structures, and general planting areas. The structural, framework plantings are typically identified by name and specifically located on the plan.
The scope of work does not include detailed construction/scaled working drawings for any site structure or the actual construction or installation of the design. Services and advice are limited to planning and conceptual design of exterior spaces and horticultural consultation and do not include any engineering services, structural analysis, or construction details which may require the services of a licensed professional as required by law.
Garden Styling: plant selection & placement
I am available to consult with you in your garden on plant selection and placement. I procure plants, specifically selected for your garden, and provide assistance regarding their specific placement in your garden. Almost all of the client gardens you will see on my site were laid out in this manner after the development & implementation of a conceptual garden plan. This is also an excellent solution for those needing help with smaller areas or rejuvenating an existing planting.
This is the general process; although it can vary depending on the project and client needs & wishes:
- We develop a Conceptual Plan for our garden (see above).
- We select a contractor(s) who will provide the hardscape installation. Irrigation, lighting, paths, stonework, patios, fences and other structures are built during this phase.
- Bloomtown provides and lays out plants in your newly constructed garden working within previously agreed upon objectives; such as characteristics of the plant palette, and budget. How ongoing maintenance is going to be accomplished is a consideration throughout our process.
- Physical installation of the plants is done by the selected contractor or, if desired, by the homeowner.
I truly believe that you get the “best of me” when we work this way. I have a knack for creating dynamic combinations which don’t always translate easily to paper.
Hourly Consultation
I am available to consult with you on an hourly basis in your garden. This method is most appropriate when you need some direction & assistance on a general concept for your garden or when only a small area is being considered.
Detailed Planting Plans
Fully detailed, scaled planting plans with plant lists & profiles, and maintenance schedules are available. The planting plan includes quantities & recommended size to purchase. Fees for planting plans vary based on the size & complexity of the project.
CONTACT DARCY via email to discuss your project. Most work is completed in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area, although out-of-area work will be considered.
