Blooming in my garden now is a welcome splash of winter color -- Hamamelis 'Jelena' (Witch Hazel).
H. 'Jelena' is my favorite cultivar of the witch hazels. Her burnt orange color is striking and comes at a time of year when flowers and colorful details are especially welcome. But another of her great attributes is her small stature - she is among the smaller witch hazels and consequently is very "garden-sized" - I have her in my own small urban garden and find myself using her over & over again in my client gardens as well.
In addition to winter bloom, the witch hazels provide excellent fall color and a pleasing, open vase-shaped structure.
