Chorus of the Goddess Flora: 2010 KXL Plant Nerd Night Performance

The Chorus of the Goddess Flora (and Dead Heading Society) performed at Mike Darcy's KXL Plant Nerd Night Friday, March 5, 2010 in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

In this suite of songs our lyricist, Linda Beutler, has really out-done herself with her adaptions of Good Morning Nerd Night, Seasons Can Be Hard, and The Age of Asparagus from the musical Hair. But we certainly could not pull it off without Steve Peter, our director and Doug McCleary, our accompanist.

Yup, we're having a blast!

Chorus of the Goddess Flora Performing at KXL Plant Nerd Night this Friday, March 6th

Spring must be on the way. It's that time of year again and Mike Darcy is set to host the 9th annual KXL Plant Nerd Night this Friday night and, bless his heart, he's asked the Chorus of the Goddess Flora to perform again. (He probably knows we'd just show up anyway, so he might as well invite us!)

For the uninitiated, the Chorus of the Goddess Flora is a rowdy group of plant nuts that break into horticulturally humorous lyrics semi-periodically at horticultural events here in the Portland area. If you have no idea what I'm talking about and can't imagine how this would take shape, you can get up to speed here. I've posted some of the YouTube links of past performances on Bloomtown's Facebook page.

People seem to enjoy what we do and I can say for sure that we sure do.

Oh yeah, there will be plants there too. Here's the dirt on the event details:

When:    Friday, March 6, 2009. Doors open 6pm, presentations begin at 7pm
Where:    Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2000 Country Club Road/Lake Oswego (across from Lake Oswego High School)

This year's presenters are:

• Terra Nova Nursery

• Thompson’s Nursery
• Xera Plants
• Hydrangeas Plus

The event is sponsored in part by KXL, Al's Garden Center, Black Gold Soil, & Meta.

It's a free event. But be warned, if it's anything like past years, it'll be a packed house, so make sure you get there in plenty of time.

Chorus of the Goddess Flora at Garden Fever this Friday

If you're in Northeast Portland this Friday evening, I hope you'll think about dropping by the Feast on Art celebration at Garden Fever (3433 NE 24th Avenue, Portland, OR). The event runs from 6 pm to 9 pm on Friday, and festivities will continue on Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm.

At about 7 pm on Friday, December 5th, The Chorus of the Goddess Flora will be singing some seasonal favorites, sung with a horticulturally humorous bent. If you've seen us perform you know what I mean by that, if you haven't seen us ...well, just come, OK? To get the idea you might want revisit my earlier post which includes a video clip of an earlier performance at a KXL Nerd Night.

The event is a fund raiser for Growing Gardens, a local nonprofit organization focusing on providing start-up assistance and support to limited income people who are just getting started with vegetable gardening. Garden Fever will be donating 10% of all purchases on December 5th to this really great organization.

Friday, March 7th - doors open at 6 pm

Mike Darcy's KXL Plant Nerd Night is an immensely popular event. Entrance to the event is free, but plan to arrive early, lines form well in advance of the doors opening for this horticultural love-fest. Each year a small group of specialty growers are invited to Plant Nerd Night where they are each allowed to make a brief presentation where they tell us about the newest & coolest offerings from their nurseries.

The format of the evening typically goes something like this; doors open at 6 pm, shopping from 6 pm to 7 pm, presentations by participating vendors from 7 pm to about 8 pm with the chorus (see below) providing the "half-time" entertainment, and more shopping is typically available after the presentation. Participating nurseries this year are:

• Gossler Farm Nursery
• Joy Creek
• Skagit Gardens
• Wild Ginger Farm
• Wind Dancer Garden

Once again the Chorus of the Goddess Flora will be performing at this year's event. I've blogged about this fun group that I perform with before. This time I'm linking to some YouTube footage of the group. The two-part video was shot at last year's Nerd Night. (Thanks Jim!) Lighting & sound are a bit sketchy, but you get the gist. We have a blast.

Chorus of the Goddess Flora performance: Friday, Nov. 30th at Garden Fever

The Chorus of the Goddess Flora* will be performing this Friday at Garden Fever (3433 NE Fremont, Portland, OR) as part of a holiday event called Feast on Art. The event runs from 6 pm to 8 pm, the chorus will perform at about 7 pm.

Feast on Art is a holiday event where local artisans and crafters will offer their wares and of course Garden Fever will be open for shopping as well. As an added bonus, Garden Fever has generously offered to contribute 10% of all purchases made on Friday evening to Growing Gardens, a very worthy local non-profit that is focused on providing start-up assistance and support to limited income people getting started with vegetable gardening.

If you can’t make it on Friday night, the local artisans and crafters will be at Garden Fever on Saturday the 1st as well.
